Note from Sec4s to sec 3s, 2s and 1s

Hi to all Sec 1s, 2s & 3s.

the senior councils (me, patpu, joshy and haikal) would like to warn each and everyone of you to practice and learn the music stuffs yourself. i know this note may sound harsh but we mean well.

to the brasses:

you guys sounded terrifically bad. the pieces are not meant to be sight-read since it had been given weeks and weeks ago and you should be able to play through the entire piece already. utter disappointment.

to the woodwinds:

you guys are no better. its total intonation everywhere. messy, but i have to comment, you guys did a better job than the brasses (although still no better).

to the whole band:

people, you know you can do a better job. i know we gotta bronze for syf. but so what? public out there doesn't give a sh** bout the medal. yes, maybe some, but the minority. majority looks out for beautiful sound and pure real MUSIC. isn't that what we've been looking for? anyway, end of year concert better not be a failure or any mistakes should arise. its not about being scared of mr ong or mr glosz. its about realizing your mistake and working on it for the better. i know y'all are just afraid of playing out. JUST PLAY OUT (totally harmless ok!) during band camp (WHOLE 3 DAYS), when it is sectionals, make sure you practice all the pieces and clarify all the notes and rhythmic probs you face. when it comes to rehearsal, it is purely working on balancing and expressions. + the whole band will be screwed if i do not see or find PENCILS in your files.

also, CLEAR ARTICULATION has always been the key factor. i'm speechless over you all and i really do not what to say if you guys just do not want to heed the advices we gave. fooolllloooowwwwww the DEADLINE of the piece you have to complete. its toally SELF-DISCIPLINE at work.

1.) Prince of Egypt

2.) Howl's Moving Castle 2 Movements

3.) Gabriel's Oboe

and ALL THE PIECES YOU GUYS ARE PLAYING ALRIGHT (i can't think of all now).

anyway, PRACTICE & PRACTICE & PRACTICE & REHEARSE.

effort you put in is the quality you get.

hey bdssb! KL trip's over, SYF 2009 is OVER! well, most of the sec4s are leaving, sad uh? anyway, good job for syf! we brought home a bronze, but we know that we were actually a silver. well, its ok. just take it as a learning point for each and everyone. tune your instrument well before going on stage. umm overture no.1 was commented by many people who went for our performance, they said it was the most balance among all the other bands who played overture no 1. our legend of the ancient hero was kindof screwed at some parts like 7/8 bars, the slow portion. and getting the piccolo in tune was a tough job for the other schools but it was effortless for our piccoloist! let us not be faltered by the comments other instructors who doesn't know how to appreciate our beautiful sound and other students from the other schools who says that bedok south isn't good. insulting us, insulting our instructors. mr yeo wasn't disappointed at all, mr ong wasn't so was mr glosz. they all predicted us a silver, but we got a bronze. standard was raised on the last day. most of us would curse and swear, but what's done is done, all we could do it wait for another 2 years. prepare bdssb for a Gold in 2011! the alumnis (sec 3/4's 09), when we graduate, we will come back to help the juniors. we know we can make a leap from a bronze to a gold. but most importantly is not the medal, is the time we enjoy on stage, its the excellence in music that matters! that is primary, getting the medal is secondary. put in more effort! keep up the GREAT GREAT GREAT EFFORT GUYS! proud of each and everyone of you. BDSSB is saved cus our sec2s'09 are able to play grade 4.5 piece. which is totally impossible for other schools to achieve such standards. have high hopes, do not let it shatter just because of one or two member in the band. stand firm and move on guys!(((:

KL Trip

Guys, KL Trip is nearing. it is in just 4-5 days time. please please please make sure you can play all your pieces. do not let us keep reminding you of what to do eg. tonguing, clear articulation, etc.

im sure the trip will be extremely enjoyable if everyone puts his/her best in everything they do. also, remember to pack your luggage according to the list. we've got 2 performances, one at putra jaya concert hall, the other one at KLCC. be the best band amongst the rest! i know you guys can do it! of course, during the trip, we'll support the other 2 schools with us as well. its very important that we give one another moral support. okay, rest well, & cya soon!

heyhoooo everyone! EVAN RYAN AMIS PHUA SHI YANG here! (i have a long, i know)

anyhow, please come to this blog as much as possible to get informations and stuffs. i know the previous wordpress blog became dead after 2 months of not updating it. read the "take note!" section, cus it brings you abt the schedule of our happening band. meanwhile, practice your KL trip pieces. if you don't wna embarrass yourselves in front of the other bands going KL and bands from malaysia whom are going to be our audience, then you better practice. although main focus is legend of the ancient hero & overture no.1, but practicing other pieces helps you improve your skills to play better. band room will be open everyday, from mon-sat, so please make an effort to come for either tuesday or thursday for sectionals. mr yeo will be coming down for band rehearsal this wed, make sure legend is ready by then. anything else please contact me. arigato(:
